I came across this app while surfing the App Store and decided to give it a try. It claimed that it could extend the life of your battery and maximize each charge. I was skeptical of their claims, and to be perfectly honest I'm still not totally sure if it gives you more power per charge however I found myself practicing proper charging techniques because of the app. The app asks that in order for a full charge to take place, you must have your battery below 20% capacity before plugging it in. Once plugged it, Battery Doctor will "do the rest for you". The app will give you an approximate charge time (although it doesn't usually take as long as initially estimated) as well as keep a log of your previous charges, indicating which were full charges and which were partial.
Practice Proper Charging Techniques
The thing I found the most useful was that Battery Doctor made me want to charge my iPhone correctly. I had it in the back of my mind that I had to burn my battery down to under 20% before I launched Battery Pro and plugged it in. I found at times with my battery sitting at 30% or so that it would be very handy to have a tool built into Battery Doctor that could help you discharge your battery, but that could just be wishful thinking.
Another very handy tool in Battery Doctor is the screen approximating how much time you have left to do particular activities, such as surf WiFi, play games, listen to music etc. This screen is also customizable so you can have only the activities that you do show.
After doing several full charge cycles, it did almost seem like I got a slightly noticable amount more of charge than a regular charge would have offered. The verdict is still out on this one but I think the main benefit of using Battery Doctor is the information it offers as well as how it keeps you and your charging practices in check. It only costs $0.99 and is compatible with the iPad as well as the iPod Touch. The app lets you customize its look slightly with themes or photos and also offers tips on how to maintain your battery properly as outlined by Apple themselves. Pros:
- Shows remaining usage for different activities
- Logs your previous charges
- Provides tips on proper charging
- Charge time doesn't seem to be accurate and changes as the charge progresses
- No tool to assist with discharging battery
